Innovative interiors merge the old with the new

Wayville, South Australia – July, 31 2014 – One of Adelaide’s premiere boutique interior design firms, Mosmo Living, is proud to announce the completion of their Wayville display space in July, 2014.

This renovation aims to showcase the skills of principal designer, Melissa Drew and her ability to seamlessly integrate the warmth of a 1890 bluestone with a modern extension to encapsulate the needs of modern professionals and families.

Working with a four room villa that had been subject to a 1980s extension and was in desperate need of updating, Melissa and her team worked to create a structural design to form a contemporary link from the old house into a completely new renovation with a modern edge.

Beyond the design and style, materials were skilfully chosen and integrated to keep to a moderate budget while delivering an energy efficient and sustainable finish.

From retaining the existing roof at the front portion of the home and merging the rear renovation with a commercial light-weight roofing product with thermal benefits, Mosmo Living has been able to avoid the traditional barriers and costs associated with renovations and redevelopments on older homes.

Drawing on her years of interior architecture and design experience, Ms Drew was also able to create a space that maximised natural light and sunshine by drawing on the northerly aspect – a valuable feature especially in the winter months.

By adding elements of timber and key colour choices, Ms Drew has successfully removed the harshness of the concrete floors, and instead has created an inviting space – elevating the renovation from a great design to an inviting space.

The open kitchen showcases a depth of character through the integration of a carefully selected colour palette reflected through varying bench top finishes and mirrored appliances for an innovative, yet beautiful finish. The spatial design incorporated by Mosmo Living in the kitchen, integrates large ergonomic work surfaces with a fluid walk area, a butler’s pantry and high-end built in appliances, ideal for families and social entertainers.

In a deliberate effort to integrate the old and the new, the bathroom is a perfect melding of modern fixtures and joinery with traditional hand painted feature tiling.
As a satisfied past client who has used Mosmo Living for both her home and Cellar Door renovations, Helen Edwards has said “Mosmo Living’s design has been timeless. It is as progressive today as it was seven years ago.” With this most recent renovation of their own display space, Mosmo Living, has once again demonstrated their ability to respect the beauty of old architecture and seamlessly mesh it together with modern furniture, fixtures and finishes to create an exceptional lasting end design.

Mosmo Living is opening the doors to their new design space by appointment only.
