On the esplanade and split across three levels, the Mosmo Living team completed an extensive internal renovation to ensure this beach side home functions for many years to come.
This unique project brought with it many challenges, not least of which was the commissioning of a lift to run from the lower ground garage to the master suite, main bath and bedrooms on level one. Repurposing the existing internal staircase allowed for the needed access without significant internal excavation and structural works. A new internal timber staircase with frameless glass balustrading and handrails wraps from the ground floor along the level one landing. Cladding the lift shaft in a VJ cladding adds a subtle texture while leading the eye and emphasising the volume within the space.
Another design challenge came in creating a space that allowed for in excess of 30 immediate family members to gather without dispelling the warm beachside haven atmosphere for the two primary residents. The sharp angles and poor spatial planning of the existing open plan living area was gutted and transformed to create the ideal space. The use of smooth curves and banquette seating make this small space feel large and harmonious. Critical to this harmony was the selection of furniture and trimmings. A seamless pairing of both; furnishings of a scale to open the space meets linen curtains carrying warm grey tones, marble additions, and understated lighting to create a modern, peaceful, and inviting space.
The project was the first time our client had engaged a professional team to design their space, meeting their lifestyle and aesthetic. The project ran so smoothly in part to the careful planning by the design team, but primarily through the highly organised construction management by the build team. The client found the process both surprising and gratifying from the initial design meeting through to project handover.
